What's Your Problem?

Bertha was watching a bit of afternoon TV the other day and doing her nails. Observing the plights of the misguided characters...she pointed out to me that there is really one problem...we want something that we think we can't have...it just wears different faces from time to time...
So...let't get that straight...according to Bertha, there's just one problem...your belief that you can't have what you want...whether it's money...or a relationship...or good health...or the perfect weight...a job you love...it really doesn't matter...when you have a problem...it's because you want something and think you can't have it.
She said it's not the absence of what you want...but the belief that things will never change that gets you.
As much as I hate to admit it...I think she's right. I know people who have been broke...who are now financially successful...I know people who were grossly obese...who are now thin...I know people who were quite lonely...who now are in happy relationships...and come to think about it...none of them had ever given up hope that they were going to get what they wanted...
But I also know plenty of people who were in the same circumstances...who are still right there...bemoaning their bank accounts, sick, overweight...still looking for someone to share their life with...all of them complaining that things will never change...
It was making sense to me...this one problem concept...what I didn't understand...was how you change uour belief...how do you look at your negative bank balance and believe that you can have plenty of money...how do you look in the mirror and see double chins and bulging bellies...and believe that you can have a thin body?
Well, Bertha said it is as easy as crossing the street...you know...
Stop -notice when you are thinking a limiting thought. That's right...catch yourself in the act. Then...
Look -look in all directions for what you want...not just right in front of you at what you have...look for all the rich people...all the thin people...all the happy couples...whatever it is that you want...look to see the evidence of it all around you. Hey, if it can happen to them...it can happen to you! Then...
Listen -listen to your heart...it will gently tell you what action you should take to get your heart's desire. Too often, you listen to your head instead of your hear...head's say things like, "SHOULD" and "CAN'T"...hearts say things like, "COULD" and "CAN". Then...
Walk -take action. Start going for your dreams...whether it's the urge to skip that cheesecake at lunch or mention to a friend that you're looking for a different job...follow your heart and before you know it...you'll be on the other side of the street!
So...think about it...what's your problem? Try the Stop, Look, Listen and Walk approach...I can't wait to see where you go!!

Who would you get if you crossed Lucy with a popular talk show host? Why Bertha, of course! A zany redhead, who is always up to something and drags her sidekick along with her while she's dispensing down-home wisdom and perky advice for finding balance and joy in one's life. Throw in a conniving nemesis, an antagonistic cat, lime green spandex and high-heels and you've got a book that's sure to tickle your funny bone and leave you wearing your thinking cap as you read and reread each vignette.
